Animal Procedures
Our City Police Department will pick up a dog or cat that has been loose within City limits. Your help will be greatly appreciated if you are able to catch and hold the animal until it can be retrieved. Please do not approach the animal if it appears threatening in any way.

If reporting an animal on the loose, Monday-Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM, please contact Deer River City Hall at 218-246-8195. If at other times, please contact the Deer River Police Department at 218-246-2525.

The City of Deer River will make an effort to locate the owner of an animal by posting the animal on our City Facebook page. The City will hold the lost animal at our kennel for three days before contacting a locale animal rescue to determine placement. Please see a list of fees below for animals being housed at our kennel.
Fees

Owner's of animals being housed at the City's kennel shall be charged an automatic $15 with an additional $5/day fee after three days.
Licensing

The fee for dog and cat licenses shall be $10.00 for male or female.

The fee for duplicate dog and cat tags shall be $3.00.

Vet Clinic
The City of Deer River's Vet Clinic typically takes place in late April and is offered to get pets in the City of Deer River area their vaccinations up to date and to obtain City pet licenses.

The Vet Clinic takes place behind the Deer River Fire Hall. People are asked to enter the Fire Hall from 4th Ave NW. Signs will posted to direct traffic.
